About Anka's Treasures

I began quilting at the early age of 19. Immediately addicted, quilting soon filled all my spare time. I began to find it hard to follow other patterns without changing or redesigning them. I soon began starting from scratch and designing my own patterns. The dream of owning my own pattern designing business began to take shape and I published my first patterns in 1996. Designing and publishing patterns became one of my part time jobs while finishing college. Upon graduating with a degree in Business Administration, I began pursuing my designing career full time. 10 years later, I currently have 11 books and over 30 singles and several fabric lines on the market, along with several other designs that have been published in quilting magazines. The dream continues and I feel blessed to be able to do what I love and share my ideas with others.

Anka's Treasures was named after a very inspiration person to me, my Great-Grandma, Anka Pertersen. She began the tradition of sewing in my family by first teaching my mom how to sew. My mom then passed on that gift to me. My first sewing machine was a hand-me-down from Great-Grandma when I was only 5. I not only cherish her for passing down the love of sewing and working with one's hands, but also for her great outlook on life. She was very independent, so mentally sharp and had lived through many hardships, while still maintaining an attitude of great faith and encouragement. She was 98 years old when she died and just saw the beginnings of my pattern designing career. I was fortunate that she lived such a long life and therefore, I had the opportunity to get to know and connect with her.
